Opportunity Cost

It’s obviously been a while since I’ve managed to post anything, and some of you may notice that the blog has moved.  In order to make it more useful at school, it was necessary to move it off of Google Blogger and on to this website called edublogs.  Other than the location. I don’t anticipate any differences.

I last posted before the school year started.  We’re now six weeks into the year.  I underestimated the disruption caused by moving my classroom one room over.  I underestimated the workload increase from now having 68 students enrolled in IB Economics.  I procrastinated getting materials ready for school, so just like my students I’m living day-to-day in class preparation.

So why call this post “Opportunity Cost?”  Those of you who have taken economics from me or from someone else recognize the concept that every choice entails giving something up.  That’s the opportunity cost of the choice.  For the past six weeks the opportunity cost of getting at least a small amount of sleep and maintaining a small amount of sanity has been giving up writing on this blog in a timely manner.  I’m going to try to do better.  Last week two former students complained and asked why I haven’t been blogging.  I’m going to try to do better!

I’m also ready to try and use this a s a teaching tool for my classes, and I’m going to start by posting some materials related to IB Economics Internal Assessments, also known as the “Commentaries.”  Once I get that up and running, I’ve got a bunch of articles and thoughts I want to share and see what you think.  Let’s get going again.
